"Citizen Chewie" Makes It Official. STAR WARS Actor Peter Mayhew Becomes US Citizen on Monday, October 17, 2005.

Most newly naturalized citizens of the United States are immigrants from other countries on the globe, but in this case, one of the newest Americans will be from "a galaxy far, far away".

On Monday, October 17th, Peter Mayhew, best known to countless fans around the world as "Chewbacca", will take the oath of citizenship along with hundreds of new citizens at the Arlington, Texas Convention Center at a 9am ceremony.

Mayhew, took on the role of "Chewie" back in 1977 with STAR WARS, Episode 4 - A New Hope and also starred in The EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, RETURN OF THE JEDI and returned to the big screen this past May in the blockbuster film, REVENGE OF THE SITH.

Although being an "alien" for many years, Peter now lets his "hair down" and joins the American Melting Pot. Peter has been a resident of Granbury, Texas for 5 years and is married to his wife of 6 years, Angelique. They have 3 daughters.
